Industry Specific ComplianceThe Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Govt. of Assam on June 27, 2025, issued a SOP for the Transportation of Live Pigs to and through Assam.

The following has been stated namely: -

• Transportation of live pigs, including piglets and breeding stock, via railways has been completely prohibited across Assam. This measure is aimed at controlling the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) and other infectious diseases. Only road transport is permitted, and that too under strict guidelines.

• Entry of pigs into Assam by road is allowed only through the Srirampur check post in Kokrajhar district. Other entry points like Boxirhat in Dhubri district are not permitted for pig transportation. 

• Each vehicle can carry up to 200 pigs, accompanied by valid Veterinary Health Certificates and Transit Permits, adhering to weight limits for piglets and adults to ensure safe and stress-free transport.

• Violations of the SOP attract strict penalties including fines up to ₹2,000 per pig or ₹3,00,000 per vehicle, confiscation and culling without compensation, blacklisting of repeat offenders, and legal action under relevant laws.
