The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on July 10, 2025, issued the Draft Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Appliance Labelling) Regulations, 2025.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It aims to establish a comprehensive framework governing the display of essential information on labels, including their particulars, manner, and time limits, to establish the process for applying for and granting permission to affix such labels and to provide for compliance testing and label fees.
• These regulations apply to a wide range of appliances and equipment including various types of refrigerators, air conditioners (fixed, variable speed, commercial, cassette, etc.), chillers, ceiling fans, electric water heaters, televisions (including UHD), washing machines, lamps, distribution transformers, grid-connected solar inverters, and solar photovoltaic modules.
• It states that each appliance or equipment must display a label with key details including its unique label number, brand, model, energy performance, star rating, country of origin, and other specifications, following the design and format prescribed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Label Particulars) Regulation, 2025.
• It states that every registered appliance or equipment must display a legible, durable self-adhesive label with a QR code, visible at point of sale and on packaging, within six months of the regulation's effect, as per BEE Label Regulations, 2025.
• It states that the Bureau of Energy Efficiency will publish an Operational Manual on its website outlining binding procedures for registration, labelling, compliance, and enforcement under the Standards and Labelling Programme, including all required formats and timelines for participating entities.
• Objections or suggestions, if any, may be addressed to the Director-General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, 4th Floor, Sewa Bhawan, R.K. Puram, Sector-1, New Delhi-110 066through post and email at [email protected], by August 14, 2025.
