The Department of Labour, Punjab on July 30, 2025, issued a notification regarding the women employ working in the night shifts in the factories.
The Punjab Government has amended the earlier notification stating the conditions for factories seeking exemption to employ women during night shifts and has stated:
• Consent from each woman employee is mandatory, and strict compliance with the Sexual Harassment Act is required.
• Factories must ensure CCTV coverage, lighting, secure transportation, female guards, and medical facilities.
• Women must work in batches, and the total number of women workers employed on a night shift shall not be less than 5 or 2/3rd of the total strength.
• Applications for exemption must be submitted online from the person authorised by the factory, with an undertaking that the detailed conditions shall be complied with. The exemption will be auto-generated within 24 hours.
