EHS ComplianceThe Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) on June 16, 2025, notified regarding the categorization of new or left-over white category industries on Directions issued under the Water (P & CP) Act, 1974, and the Air (P & CP) Act, 1981.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The CPCB, through directions dated February 12, 2025, under the Water Act, 1974, and Air Act, 1981, instructed SPCBs to classify any new or left-out industrial sectors without requiring CPCB’s concurrence, by forming committees and applying revised criteria.

• In compliance, it constituted a committee on May 19, 2025, which identified 222 new White category industries in addition to the 56 already listed by CPCB, treating them as “practically non-polluting.”

• These industries cover small-scale, non-polluting activities like handicrafts, assembling, food processing, furniture making, and renewable energy units. Consent will be granted through self-certification on the MPCB portal, simplifying compliance for such industries.
