Industry Specific ComplianceThe Lakshadweep Administration on October 03, 2025, issued the General Guidelines for the prevention of student suicides in Higher Educational Institutions in Lakshadweep.

The following has been stated namely: -

• Following the Supreme Court judgment dated July 25, 2025, the Union Territory of Lakshadweep has issued comprehensive guidelines for Mental Health and Prevention of Student Suicide in Higher Educational Institutions. All institutions shall frame a mental health policy based on national frameworks like MANODARPAN (2020) and UMMED (2024) and provide counseling services in collaboration with the Department of Medical & Health Services. 

• Confidential counseling records shall be maintained, and no student shall face discrimination based on learning ability or background. Faculty and staff shall undergo mandatory mental health training, and institutions should form a multi-departmental committee to prevent harassment. Regular awareness and orientation programmes, career counseling, and extracurricular activities, including yoga, are to be organized to promote well-being. 

• Additionally, institutions shall ensure drug-free, harassment-free, and safe campuses, promptly report concerning student behavior to parents, and strictly implement these directions under the supervision of educational authorities.
