The Government of Goa, Department of Animal Husbandry (GoAHD), on October 23, 2025, issued a notification reiterating measures to maintain the State’s status as a “Rabies Controlled Area”, as previously declared vide Notification No. 14-9-AH/Rabies Control/2021-22/679 dated May 17, 2021. The notification underscores the continued commitment of the State to prevent the reintroduction of the rabies virus within Goa’s borders.
Under this directive, it is mandatory for all animals—particularly dogs and cats—brought into Goa to be properly registered and vaccinated against rabies. The vaccination must have been administered within the past year, or must be done immediately upon arrival in the State.
Pet owners are also required to carry valid vaccination cards as proof of compliance. These measures aim to strengthen biosecurity and ensure the sustained success of Goa’s rabies control program.
