The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), on August 13, 2025, published the Consolidated Industry Categorisation List which aligns with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)-framework of Red, Orange, Green, White and Blue categories. The document classifies various industrial sectors in Telangana based on pollution potential, emission/waste generation, process type and environmental risk.
The categorisation distinguishes:
Red category for industries with high pollution potential (e.g., integrated auto manufacturing, asbestos units, large-coal fuelled brick kilns)
Orange category for medium-pollution potential industries (e.g., smaller brick kilns, beverage units, modular furniture manufacturing) Lower categories (Green/White/Blue) for progressively lower impact sectors or purely water/solid-waste regimes, each subject to differentiated consent/clearance norms.
The list is intended to streamline regulatory oversight: industries and accounting units must verify their category, obtain the requisite consents/clearances under TS PPCB oversight and ensure compliance with emissions, effluent norms and environmental safeguards. The categorisation also aids in prioritising inspections and resource allocation by the TS PPCB.
