The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW), on December 31, 2025, issued a notification under the Seeds Act, 1966, declaring specified varieties of seeds as notified varieties for India for the purpose of seed production and sale for agricultural use.
The notification has been issued in exercise of powers conferred under Section 5 of the Seeds Act, 1966, after due consultation with the Central Seed Committee. Through this notification, the Central Government has determined that it is necessary and expedient to regulate the quality of seeds of certain varieties, as detailed in the notified table, corresponding to specific kinds of seeds and the States or Union Territories where they may be sold.
With effect from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, the notified seed varieties shall be subject to quality regulation under the Act and may be sold for agricultural purposes only in the States or Union Territories specified against each variety. This measure aims to ensure seed quality, enhance agricultural productivity, and safeguard farmers’ interests across the country.
