The Chandigarh Administration (CHD), on December 30, 2025, issued a notification declaring the list of holidays to be observed in public offices under its jurisdiction during the Calendar Year 2026. As per the notification, all Sundays and all Saturdays shall be treated as general holidays. In addition, employees are permitted to avail any two Restricted Holidays from the prescribed list during the year.
The notification specifies Schedule-I (Public Holidays) and Schedule-II (Restricted Holidays), covering major national, religious, and regional occasions such as Republic Day, Holi, Id-ul-Fitr, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, Guru Nanak’s Birthday, and Christmas, along with restricted observances including Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Vaisakhi, Raksha Bandhan, Karva Chauth, Chhath Puja, and Jor Mela, Fatehgarh Sahib. A holiday on account of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Birthday shall be declared separately as notified by the Government.
The notification also declares holidays applicable in the Union Territory of Chandigarh under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, applicable to banks and financial institutions, which include all Sundays, every 2nd and 4th Saturday, and specified bank holidays such as Annual Closing of Bank Accounts (1 April) and other notified festivals and national days.
