The Ministry of Textiles, on January 01, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Stock Limit Order for Raw Jute under the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order, 2016.
The following has been stated: -
•The Jute Commissioner has imposed revised stock limits on raw jute holdings for stockists, traders, and jute mills, with quantities varying by registration status and category.
•Entities holding excess stock must sell and deliver it within prescribed timelines, stop fresh purchases, and submit compliance reports while updating stocks fortnightly on the Jute SMART portal.
•Stock held at a single premises will be treated as a single stock, regardless of multiple registrations, and contracted stock remains with the seller until physical delivery.
•Non-compliance attracts penal action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, with powers granted for inspection, search, seizure, and enforcement; the order is effective immediately until further notice.
