Labour ComplianceThe Government of Maharashtra, on December 31, 2025, notified the Maharashtra Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2025.

The following has been stated: -

•The Maharashtra Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2025, aims to decriminalise and rationalise offences to promote trust-based governance and ease of doing business.

•It amends multiple State laws by replacing criminal penalties with monetary fines/penalties and substantially enhancing fine amounts.

•Several Acts see reclassification of “penalties” as “fines,” deletion of certain penal provisions, and escalation of monetary consequences for non-compliance.

•The Shops and Establishments Act, 2017, is notably reformed by introducing adjudication and appeal mechanisms, shifting enforcement from criminal courts to administrative processes.
