The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on December 22, 2025, issued a circular regarding the Revision of Turnaround Time (TAT) for Responding to IMPS Fraud Chargebacks.
The Turnaround Time (TAT) for beneficiary banks to respond to IMPS fraud chargebacks has been reduced from 25 calendar days to 15 calendar days to enable faster resolution, based on member feedback. This revised timeline is effective from January 28, 2025, and applies to all IMPS fraud chargebacks, regardless of whether they are raised before or after January 28, 2026. Beneficiary banks must accept or reject fraud chargebacks within the revised 15-day period, failing which the chargeback will be deemed accepted in IRCS and settled accordingly. All other IMPS dispute (IRCS) rules remain unchanged.
