Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Maharashtra, on December 31, 2025, published the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Development and Regulation) (Amendment) Act, 2025, after receiving the assent of the Governor. The Act replaces the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Development and Regulation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, which had been promulgated on October 13, 2025, when the State Legislature was not in session, to address the need for immediate reforms in agricultural marketing.

The amendment introduces key new definitions in the principal Act, including “Market of National Importance”, “National Agriculture Market”, and “Unified Single Trading Licence”. These provisions aim to facilitate integrated, technology-enabled agricultural markets, promote seamless intrastate and interstate trade, and reduce regulatory fragmentation by enabling a unified licensing framework for traders.

Further, the Act provides for the establishment of Markets of National Importance through the insertion of a new chapter, strengthening Maharashtra’s alignment with national agricultural marketing reforms. The legislation is deemed to have come into force from October 13, 2025, ensuring continuity from the date of the earlier Ordinance and providing legal certainty to stakeholders.
