The Environment Department, Govt. of West Bengal on July 22, 2025, notified regarding the applicability of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024, in West Bengal.
It states that the Parliament enacted the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024, to decriminalize certain provisions of the Water Act, 1974, promote ease of doing business, and streamline the process for nomination of Chairpersons of State Pollution Control Boards. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly adopted this Amendment Act on June 24, 2025, by passing a resolution under Article 252 of the Constitution. Following this adoption, the Governor has notified that the Amendment Act shall apply to the entire State of West Bengal. The Act comes into force in West Bengal with effect from June 24, 2025.
