The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), on January 07, 2026, notified regarding the Copper limits in Hops Pellets for use in Beer Manufacturing.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It has been examined, and as an interim measure, it has been decided that all imported consignments of hops pellets intended for use as an ingredient in beer manufacturing in India shall conform to the copper limits prescribed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), i.e., 1000 ppm.
• Such consignments shall be accompanied by a mandatory declaration on the Bill of Entry and accompanying documents, as well as on the consignment label, stating: "Tо be used for manufacturing of Beer only."
• Hops imported for use in the food industry other than beer shall be tested for copper as per the limits prescribed under the 'Food Not Specified' category in the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, i.e., 30 mg/kg
