The Department Of Forest And Wildlife, Delhi on August 20, 2025, notified the statutory Definition of “Tree” as per the Section 2 (i) of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act (DPTA), 1994.
It is stated that for unambiguous identification and enumeration of trees as per the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act (DPTA), 1994, the statutory definition of the tree as per section 2 (i) of the Delhi Preservation of the Trees Act (DPTA), 1994 is reiterated as follows:
“2. (i) ’'tree" means any woody plant whose branches spring from and are supported upon a trunk or body and whose trunk or body is not less than fIve centimetres in diameter at a height of thirty centimetres from the ground level and is not less than one metre in height from the ground level ; ”
Henceforth, the legal definition should be followed in letter and spirit strictly as per the DPTA, 1994, and any misinterpretation of the legal definition like counting the branches as separate tree should be avoided for all the purposes of the DPTA, 1994.
