The General Administration Department, Government of Maharashtra (GAD), on January 6, 2026, has issued a notification declaring a public holiday on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in the respective Municipal Corporation areas in connection with the conduct of 29 Municipal Elections across the State. The declaration has been made in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, read with the relevant notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The holiday shall be applicable to State Government, Semi-Government offices, Corporations, Boards, Central Government offices, Public Sector Undertakings, Banks, and other establishments located within the notified municipal election areas. The benefit of the public holiday will also extend to voters belonging to these constituencies who are working outside their respective municipal areas, enabling them to exercise their franchise.
All administrative departments have been directed to bring this notification to the notice of offices and institutions under their control, and the Information and Public Relations Department has been instructed to ensure wide publication of the notification through newspapers and other media.
