Industry Specific ComplianceThe Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) on January 06, 2026, issued a circular regarding the implementation of TRAI direction on mandatory adoption of 1600-series to curb the menace of Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC).

The following has been stated: -

•TRAI has mandated the use of the 1600-series for all service and transactional voice calls by IRDAI-regulated insurers and intermediaries to curb UCC and fraud.

•All such entities must complete adoption of 1600-series numbers by February 15, 2026, and cease using any other numbers thereafter.

•Non-compliance may attract action under TRAI regulations applicable to unregistered telemarketers, in addition to IRDAI action.

•Entities must submit prescribed status reports on time and coordinate with Telecom Service Providers for allocation and activation.
