The Karnataka State Legislature, on January 06, 2026, notified the Greater Bengaluru Governance (Second Amendment) Act, 2025, assented to by the Governor on January 06, 2026, has amended the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024 to further strengthen the institutional and administrative framework of the Greater Bengaluru Authority.
The amendment expands the composition of the Greater Bengaluru Authority by including senior constitutional and administrative functionaries such as the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development), and Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary (Finance) as ex-officio members, and broadens representation to include elected and nominated members of Parliament and the State Legislature connected with the Greater Bengaluru area.
The Act also introduces time-bound provisions for delimitation and elections for newly included local areas, mandates periodic delimitation post-census, clarifies eligibility for City Corporation membership, and revises provisions relating to compounding limits and fees subject to Government approval. The Amendment came into force immediately upon publication in the Karnataka Gazette.
