The Karnataka State Legislature (KSL), on January 8, 2026, notified the Karnataka Cine and Cultural Activists (Welfare) (Amendment) Act, 2025, following the assent of the Governor on January 7, 2026, as published in the Karnataka Gazette (Extra-ordinary).
The amendment seeks to strengthen and clarify obligations under the Karnataka Cine and Cultural Activists (Welfare) Act, 2024 by redefining the responsible entity from “employer” to “establishment owner” and correspondingly amending the heading and language of Section 11. It also revises the timeline for compliance by extending the due date to the tenth day of the succeeding month.
Further, the amendment omits Section 18 of the principal Act in its entirety, thereby removing the provision from the statutory framework, and the amended Act comes into force with immediate effect.
