Industry Specific ComplianceThe Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCRR), on January 06, 2026, issued a circular to all registered entities highlighting issues arising from incorrect mobile numbers and/or dates of birth recorded in CKYCRR, which often prevent customers from receiving OTPs and create challenges during CKYC record fetching at the onboarding stage.

To address these issues while maintaining customer consent and data traceability, CKYCRR has prescribed two alternative procedures: (i) obtaining explicit physical consent from the customer and updating records after fetching CKYC data through the SFTP bulk download process, or (ii) directing customers to update their details at an existing relationship entity, followed by retrieval of corrected records via the standard API-based OTP process.

Registered Entities (REs) may adopt either option based on customer convenience and the nature of the relationship, and the same mechanism may also be used for correcting dates of birth or other demographic details to ensure smooth onboarding.
