Industry Specific ComplianceThe Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on January 09, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Simplification of requirements for grant of accreditation to investors.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The Accredited Investor framework, introduced in August 2021 and later simplified in December 2023, governs eligibility and modalities under the SEBI (AIF) Regulations, 2012 and the AIF Master Circular (May 07, 2024).

• Pending receipt of accreditation certificate, AIF managers may execute contribution agreements and initiate processes based on their own assessment of investor eligibility.

• Investor commitments cannot be included in the scheme corpus and funds cannot be accepted until the investor obtains an accreditation certificate from an authorized agency.

• The requirement to submit a detailed net-worth break-up annexed to the net-worth certificate has been removed, and it is now optional for the CA to mention the exact net worth, provided threshold compliance is certified.

This shall come into force on January 09, 2026.
