The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), on January 15, 2026, issued the Greenhouse Gases Emission Intensity Target (Amendment) Rules, 2025, to further amend the Greenhouse Gases Emission Intensity Target Rules, 2025.
The following amendment has been stated, namely:-
• The “SCHEDULE” shall be re-numbered as “THE FIRST SCHEDULE” thereof, and after THE FIRST SCHEDULE, as so numbered, the following Schedule shall be inserted, namely:- THE SECOND SCHEDULE.
• In Note 2, for the words “The greenhouse gases emission intensity targets”, the words shall be substituted with: “For the First Schedule, the greenhouse gases emission intensity targets,”
• After Note 2, the following Note shall be inserted:- “Note 3: For the Second Schedule, the greenhouse gas emission intensity targets for the year 2025- 26 have been calculated based on the pro rata target for the remaining months, i.e. from January 2026 to March 2026. The target for 2026-27 has been calculated based on the revised 2025-26 target, maintaining the same reduction percentage as the obligated entity should have received if it was notified for FY 2025-26”.
