The Government of Punjab, on January 13, 2026, notified the Punjab Abadi Deh (Record of Rights) Amendment Act, 2025, following the assent of the Governor of Punjab on January 10, 2026. The Act amends the Punjab Abadi Deh (Record of Rights) Act, 2021, with a view to providing greater administrative flexibility in timelines prescribed under the law.
The amendment revises Section 11 of the principal Act by replacing the fixed statutory timelines of ninety days and sixty days for filing objections and claims with timelines “as may be notified by the Government.” This change empowers the State Government to prescribe suitable time limits through notifications, instead of rigid deadlines embedded in the statute.
Further, Section 12(4) of the principal Act has been amended to substitute the existing sixty-day period for disposal of matters with a flexible timeline to be notified by the Government. The Act comes into force with effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, enabling responsive and adaptive implementation of record-of-rights procedures in Abadi Deh areas.
