DoP Declaration of Reversionary Bonus on Rural Postal Life Insurance Policies

Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Communications  (MoC), on January 14, 2026, notified the declaration of a simple Reversionary Bonus on Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policies, based on the actuarial valuation of the Rural Post Office Life Insurance Fund as on 31 March 2025. The bonus shall be payable on policies becoming claims due to death or maturity.

The notified bonus rates include ₹60 per thousand of sum assured for Whole Life Assurance, ₹48 per thousand for Endowment Assurance (including Children policies), and ₹45 per thousand for Anticipated Endowment Assurance (including Gram Priya policies). For Convertible Whole Life Assurance, the Whole Life bonus rate shall apply until conversion, after which the Endowment Assurance rate shall be applicable. A terminal bonus of ₹20 per ₹10,000 of sum assured, subject to a maximum of ₹1,000, shall be payable for eligible Whole Life and Endowment Assurance policies with a term of 20 years or more.

These bonus rates shall be applicable for the financial year 2026–27 with effect from 1 April 2026, and interim bonus at the same rates shall be payable for all claims arising due to death or maturity until the next valuation is completed. Bonus amounts shall be rounded off to the next higher rupee where the fraction is 50 paise or more.
