The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) on January 19, 2026, issued a notification regarding the prohibition on the disposal of Waste.
The following has been stated: -
•Following inspections on January 02 and 05, 2026, large-scale illegal disposal of liquid and solid waste into Rongkon, Ringre, and Gandrak streams in West Garo Hills was observed.
•The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board has prohibited dumping, burning, or burying waste in streams, drains, or public spaces under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
•All waste generators and local authorities must ensure segregation, proper collection, and compliance with NGT orders.
•Any violation attracts strict penalties, including imprisonment and fines, under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
