The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on January 13, 2026, issued clarifications regarding taking up compensatory afforestation over notified degraded forest land in case of CPSU/State PSU, etc.
The following has been stated: -
•The Ministry clarified CA norms for CPSU/State PSU cases under Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Rules, 2023.
•If proposed non-forest land has canopy density ≥0.4, no extra planting is needed; only crop improvement is required.
•If land is unfit, additional CA must be raised on degraded forest land at twice the shortfall area.
•For CA on degraded forest land, 1000 saplings/ha must be planted, with any balance planted in RFs/PFs at user agency cost.
