Industry Specific ComplianceThe Reserve Bank of India (Reserve Bank of India – RBI), on January 22, 2026, issued the Reserve Bank of India (Regional Rural Banks – Cash Reserve Ratio and Statutory Liquidity Ratio) Amendment Directions, 2026, pursuant to recent legislative changes including the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025 and related amendments notified in the Gazette of India.

The Amendment Directions have been issued under the powers conferred by Section 35A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, Section 42 of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, and Sections 18 and 24 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. These Directions modify the RBI’s 2025 framework governing CRR and SLR requirements for Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to align regulatory references with the amended statutory definitions and notified institutions.

Key changes include expansion of references to cover other development financial institutions, rationalisation of reporting terminology, and substitution of institution names in prescribed forms to reflect updated regulatory classifications. The Directions come into force with immediate effect and amend the Reserve Bank of India (Regional Rural Banks – Cash Reserve Ratio and Statutory Liquidity Ratio) Directions, 2025 accordingly.
