The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) on February 05, 2026, notified regarding the implementation of Permanent and Tamper-proof Barcode/QR code as per the Gas Cylinders (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
The following has been stated:
• The Gas Cylinders (Amendment) Rules, 2025 (G.S.R. 225(E) dated 11.04.2025) mandate that all cylinders and cryogenic containers used for filling compressed gases and liquids must have a permanent and tamper-proof barcode marking at a conspicuous place, as per Rule 6.
• Cylinders manufactured before the commencement of the amendment shall comply with this requirement within 365 days from the date of notification. All gas cylinder handling companies are advised to ensure compliance and submit the implementation status to the concerned office within 15 days.
