The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on February 20, 2026, issued a notification regarding Consultation with stakeholders on the draft Floating Solar Potential Assessment and draft policy framework.
The following has been stated: -
•Ministry of New and Renewable Energy conducted a stakeholder consultation on February 20, 2026, to discuss the draft Floating Solar PV Potential Assessment Report and draft policy prepared with the National Institute of Solar Energy and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.
•With only about 700 MW of floating solar projects operational due to land constraints and a lack of clear frameworks, MNRE aims to streamline site identification and implementation.
•States and Union Territories have been urged to consult stakeholders and prioritize suitable water bodies, while further consultations will be held with the environment and regulatory authorities before finalizing the policy.
