The Labour and Skills Department, Government of Kerala, on February 3, 2026, notified the revised minimum rates of wages payable to classes of employees employed in the manufacture of Gold and Silver Ornaments sector.
The following has been stated:
• The Government has revised the minimum wages for workers engaged in gold and silver manufacturing activities, including polishing, colouring, cutting, refining, ornament making, and related clerical/support staff.
• Monthly wages have been fixed for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers, ranging approximately from ₹17,940 to ₹21,360 depending on category. Piece-rate wages have also been prescribed based on the weight of gold or silver used and the type of article (plain, hard, or specially designed/handicraft).
• In addition to basic wages, eligible workers are entitled to Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) linked to the Consumer Price Index. In contrast, piece-rated workers are not eligible for separate DA as it is included in their rates.
• The notification also ensures that workers already receiving higher wages will continue to enjoy those benefits, and provides standard formulas for calculating daily and monthly wage conversions.
