The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), on February 23, 2026, notified regarding the Prescription of Generic Medicine through Dhanwantri (HIS).
The following has been stated namely:-
• It has updated the Dhanwantri (HIS) application to ensure that all prescriptions issued in ESIC/ESIS hospitals and dispensaries are written only in generic names, in line with the new policy. Previously, the system allowed both generic and branded medicines, but the revised module—effective from 09.03.2026—restricts prescriptions to generic medicines only. Doctors are required to select the appropriate store facility for dispensing OPD medicines to ensure correct routing and avoid stock issues, using the “Define Store for OPD Pharmacy” configuration in the HIS system. Generic names of branded drugs can be accessed through the Store Reports module.
• A user manual for the new Generic Medicine Module has been provided, and Dean/Medical Superintendents are requested to circulate the information and manual to all doctors. Online training has also been arranged, and requests for the same may be sent to [email protected].
