The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on February 28, 2026, issued the advisory to Indian Flag Vessels and Indian Seafarers regarding escalation of the Security Situation in Iran, Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf, and Adjacent Waters.
The following has been stated:
• It has issued a maritime security advisory in view of the escalating security situation in Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and adjacent waters, directing all Indian-flagged vessels, ship owners, operators, masters, seafarers, charterers, and related maritime stakeholders to maintain heightened vigilance and comply strictly with reporting and communication protocols prescribed by DG Shipping and related authorities.
• The circular mandates daily online reporting through the prescribed ship reporting form for vessels operating or transiting in the high-risk region and requires comprehensive voyage-specific risk assessments before transit.
• Enhanced security measures shall be implemented on board, including reviewing ship security plans, testing ship security alert systems, and briefing crew on emergency response procedures in the face of elevated threats such as missile, drone, or mine attacks.
• Masters and Company Security Officers are instructed to ensure updated reporting, maintain continuous monitoring of navigational warnings, and immediately report any suspicious activity to the DGComm Centre and relevant maritime security agencies.
• The advisory aims to safeguard Indian seafarers and ships amid the prevailing volatile security environment in the region.
