The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) on March 02, 2026, launched the 30 kW Wide Band Gap (WBG)–Based Integrated Drive System to Boost Electric Vehicle Adoption.
The following has been stated:
• It has launched an indigenously developed 30 kW Wide Band Gap (WBG)-based Integrated Drive System (IDS) for electric vehicle applications in Chennai. Developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and Lucas TVS under the National Mission on Power Electronics Technology (NaMPET), this drive system integrates the electric motor and inverter into a compact, high-power unit.
• The technology aims to boost EV adoption by reducing import dependence on high-performance powertrain components, lowering system costs through localisation, strengthening the domestic EV supply chain, and enhancing global competitiveness, while supporting MSME participation in power electronics manufacturing.
