The Ministry of Textiles (MoT) on February 25, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Mandatory Registration of Raw Jute Traders and Restriction on Purchase by Jute Mills from April 01, 2026
The following has been stated namely: -
• All dealers/traders/agencies/stockists handling 500 kg or more of raw jute in a jute year (July–June) were directed to register with the Office of the Jute Commissioner through the Jute SMART portal.
• With effect from April 01, 2026, jute mills are prohibited from purchasing raw jute from any stockist/trader/dealer/agency that does not possess a valid registration with the Office of the Jute Commissioner.
• It is mandatory for jute mills to mention the supplier’s/broker’s Registration Number in Purchase Orders and Mill Receipt returns submitted through the Jute SMART portal
• The list of validly registered traders will be periodically updated on the Jute Commissioner’s website, and the Order remains in force until further notice.
