The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on February 26, 2026, issued the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2026, further to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.
The following has been stated:-
•The amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 replace the word “labelling” with “Labelling and packaging” across multiple sub-regulations (2.1 and 2.2).
•References to the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011 are substituted with the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018 and the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020.
•Certain sub-clauses (notably 2.1.14 and 2.1.15) have omitted specific provisions.
•Overall, the amendment updates cross-references to align with the separate Packaging (2018) and Labelling & Display (2020) regulations.
Objections or suggestions may be given within 60 days from March 03, 2026.
