The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on March 02, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Index of Industrial Production and Use-Based Index for the Month of January 2026.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Quick Estimate of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is released on the 28th of every month by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, based on production data received from industries through source agencies.
• The IIP growth rate for January 2026 is 4.8%, lower than 7.8% in December 2025, indicating a moderation in industrial growth.
• Sector-wise growth in January 2026 shows Mining growing by 4.3%, Manufacturing by 4.8%, and Electricity by 5.1%, with the overall IIP index rising to 169.4 from 161.6 in January 2025.
• Within manufacturing, 14 out of 23 industry groups recorded positive growth, with the top contributors being manufacture of basic metals (13.2%), motor vehicles and trailers (10.9%), and other non-metallic mineral products (9.9%).
• Under use-based classification, Infrastructure/Construction goods (13.7%), Intermediate goods (6.0%), and Primary goods (3.1%) led the growth, while Consumer non-durables declined by 2.7% in January 2026
