The Municipal Corporation of Solan, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh on January 30, 2026, issued the Draft Grant of Trade License for Use of Premises and Storage of Articles in a Premises Bye-Laws, 2023, Solan Municipal Corporation.
The following has been stated:
• The bye-laws require any person intending to run a trade or store listed articles to obtain a trade license from the Municipal Corporation by submitting an application in the prescribed form. Businesses are categorized as small, medium, and large based on the area of the premises, and license fees are prescribed accordingly.
• A license may be granted for a period of up to five years and must be renewed after expiry; renewal within one month is allowed without a late fee, while renewal during the following month attracts a penalty of 50% of the license fee, after which a fresh license is required.
• The license is non-transferable except in the case of the death of the licensee, where it may be transferred to legal heirs for the remaining validity period. The licensee shall comply with various conditions, including using the premises only for the licensed purpose, displaying the license when required, maintaining records of stored or sold articles, paying municipal dues, and allowing inspection by authorized officers.
• The licensing authority may refuse to grant a license to persons suffering from contagious diseases, those convicted of unlawful sale or storage of articles, habitual violators of the bye-laws, or persons below 18 years of age.
• The bye-laws also prescribe penalties for violations, including suspension of the license, fines, and cancellation in cases of repeated violations or submission of false information, with penalties up to ten times the license fee.
• Additionally, annexures specify the types of businesses and articles that require a license for operation or storage within municipal limits.
• Objection(s) or suggestion(s) with regard to these bye-laws may be sent to the office of the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Solan by post, in person, or through email on [email protected], by April 02, 2026.
