The Home, Prohibition and Excise Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu on February 26, 2026, issued the amendments to the Tamil Nadu Denatured Spirit, Methyl Alcohol and Varnish (French Polish) Rules, 1959.
The following has been amended:
• In rule 8, in sub-rule (a), under the sub-heading “D.L.2. Licence for possession and use of denatured spirit, methylated spirit or methyl alcohol in the manufacture of specified commodities other than varnish”, -
o (a) in clause (2), the following proviso shall be added, namely: “Provided that the industries engaged in continuous manufacturing process shall be exempted to assigning batch number.”;
o (b) in clause (3), after the proviso the following proviso shall be added, namely: “Provided further that in respect of industries engaged in continuous manufacturing process the random sample of each product shall be analysed atleast once a month.”;
• In rule 10, in sub-rule (V), in clause (i), in sub-clause (a), the following proviso shall be added, namely: “Provided further that the licensee using advanced technical safeguards like Abloy locks, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geo fencing, shall be exempted from deploying responsible officer of the firm.”
