Industry Specific ComplianceThe Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on March 03, 2026, issued accounting procedure of Smart Pre-paid meters.

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has decided to introduce Smart Pre-paid meters for existing electricity connections. Under this system, consumers will pay in advance for their future electricity consumption, allowing them to monitor and manage their electricity usage more actively. Detailed operational guidelines for the prepaid smart meter system have already been issued through earlier commercial circulars and internal memos.

Initially, the prepaid smart meter system will be implemented for government connections that are covered under the Single Billing Software, except for Hospitals, Water Works, and Street Lighting. The scheme may later be extended to other categories of consumers based on decisions taken by the competent authority.

Consumers will be able to recharge their prepaid electricity accounts through multiple payment channels, including the PSPCL website, PSPCL mobile application, cash counters at PSPCL offices, Customer Service Centers, Punjab Government Sewa Kendras, RTGS/NEFT, and BBPS-enabled banks and digital payment apps such as Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon Pay, PayZapp, Google Pay, and BHIM.
