The Government of Lakshadweep, on March 01, 2026, issued a notification regarding mandatory Aadhaar Use in Lakshadweep Shipping Services.
The following has been stated: -
•The Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration has mandated Aadhaar authentication or proof of enrollment for all passengers booking cargo and travel tickets to ensure transparency in subsidized shipping services.
•Passengers lacking an Aadhaar number must apply for enrollment before registering for services, with the Department facilitating enrollment centers in areas where none exist.
•Until an Aadhaar number is assigned, individuals may access services by presenting an enrollment slip alongside alternative identification such as a Passport, PAN card, or Voter Identity Card.
•Effective from its publication in March 2026, this notification requires the Department to conduct wide media publicity to ensure public awareness of these new requirements
