The Government of Maharashtra on March 05, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Stamp (Amendment) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Maharashtra Stamp Act.
The following has been stated: -
•The bill proposes amendments to Section 52A of the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958, increasing the pecuniary limit from ₹5 lakh to ₹20 lakh.
•It also includes the Joint Inspector General of Registration and Superintendent of Stamps as an additional authority for refund approvals.
•The amendment introduces a new jurisdiction structure allowing different officers to approve refunds within specified monetary limits up to ₹1 crore.
•The objective is to decentralize powers and speed up refund processing due to the rising number of high-value property transactions.
