The Ministry of Cooperation (MoC) on March 10, 2026, notified regarding the launch of Bharat Taxi.
The following has been stated:
• Bharat Taxi is India’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform, launched by the Ministry of Cooperation to strengthen the cooperative sector and promote inclusive mobility. The platform aligns with the ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ vision and is registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002.
• Currently, the service operates in Delhi NCR (Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad) and in cities of Gujarat such as Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath, and Dwarka, with plans to expand across India in phases over the next two years. Bharat Taxi has signed MoUs with several organisations, including Paytm, Airports Authority of India, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Delhi Traffic Police, National e-Governance Division, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, IFFCO Tokio General Insurance, GMR Group, and State Bank of India.
• The platform aims to create employment and self-employment opportunities, especially for driver-owners, youth, and unemployed individuals, through a cooperative structure that strengthens local economies. Bharat Taxi operates on a zero-commission model, meaning profits are directly distributed to drivers. The platform offers features including a transparent fare structure, a mobile booking interface, real-time vehicle tracking, multilingual support, and 24/7 customer service, ensuring accessibility and safety.
• Additionally, the initiative promotes women’s participation through programs like “Bike Didi” and “Sarthi Didi”, which offer training, financial support, safety measures, and preferential onboarding.
