The Women Commission of Maharashtra State, on February 28, 2026, directed districts to conduct POSH Internal Committee (IC) Audits.
The following has been stated:
• It has directed all districts in Maharashtra to conduct a special audit of Internal Committees (ICs). The directive follows observations that many government, semi-government, local bodies, corporations, autonomous institutions, and private establishments have either not constituted Internal Committees or are not functioning effectively.
• District authorities have been instructed to verify whether Internal Committees are properly constituted with required members, examine complaints received and actions taken, check pending cases and their reasons, review implementation of disciplinary decisions, confirm submission of annual reports, ensure awareness and training activities, and verify display of IC information boards at workplaces.
• Where Internal Committees have not been established or are incomplete, authorities shall direct the immediate constitution of the committees and initiate action for non-compliance. The audit report on the functioning of ICs shall be submitted to the Maharashtra State Women's Commission within 30 days, and legal action should be proposed in cases where violations of the POSH Act are found.
