The Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) on March 09, 2026, notified regarding the facility for Basic Services Demat Account.
The following has been stated:
• It has informed Depository Participants to refer to the related circular issued under the directions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India regarding Basic Services Demat Accounts (BSDA). Based on data shared between CDSL and NSDL as of February 28, 2026, a list of Beneficial Owners (BOs) eligible for BSDA has been prepared and placed in the respective DPs’ billing folders.
• Eligibility is determined for individual, NRI, and foreign national accounts where the first holder has only one demat account across both depositories and the total value of securities does not exceed ₹10 lakh.
• The files also identify BOs with verified PAN, PAN-exempt accounts, and accounts currently marked as BSDA but having multiple demat accounts, enabling DPs to update or unmark the BSDA status and inform the concerned investors accordingly.
