Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on March 10, 2026, issued circular regarding the Charge structure of Point of Presence (PoP) for Common Schemes under NPS for Legal Entities (other than Government).

The PFRDA has issued revised guidelines regarding the charges that can be collected by Points of Presence (PoPs) from subscribers under the National Pension System (NPS), in accordance with Regulation 16 of the PoP Regulations, 2018. The regulation allows PoPs to collect charges from subscribers within limits and in the manner specified by the Authority.

To streamline the framework, existing “Corporates” under NPS have now been reclassified into two categories: (i) Government Entities and (ii) Legal Entities (other than Government). Government Entities include statutory bodies, government companies, and organizations owned or controlled by the Central or State Governments, including Central and State Public Sector Enterprises. Legal Entities (other than Government) include societies, associations of persons, and other organizations not under government administrative control.

For Legal Entities (other than Government) under common NPS schemes, the applicable PoP charge has been revised to 0.20% per annum of the Assets Under Management (AUM). This charge will be adjusted through the Net Asset Value (NAV) and paid to PoPs on a quarterly basis, except for dormant accounts. Applicable taxes such as GST will be charged additionally. Dormant accounts—defined as those with no contributions for four consecutive quarters after a contribution—will not attract these charges.

The circular also allows PoPs to decide, as per their internal policy, whether to recover these charges from their own employees who are NPS subscribers. PoPs must inform the Central Recordkeeping Agencies (CRAs) of their decision by March 27, 2026 if not already done. This circular supersedes earlier circulars issued on January 31, 2025 and December 31, 2025 regarding PoP service charges under NPS.
