The Ministry of Steel (MoS) on February 19, 2026, issued revision in the Advance Registration Timelines for Steel Imports under Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS).
The Government has revised the advance registration timelines for importing steel products through the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) Portal, superseding earlier notices dated June 13, 2025, August 04, 2025, and September 10, 2025.
Under the revised rules, importers must register in advance on the SIMS portal not earlier than 60 days before the expected arrival of the consignment. For imports from all countries except Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka, registration must be completed at least 3 days before the expected arrival date. For imports originating from Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka, the registration must be completed at least 2 days before arrival.
For items covered under specific HS codes of Heading 7204 of ITC(HS), 2022, as well as imports from SEZ/EOU units to the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA), the advance registration period is set as not earlier than 60 days and not later than 2 days before the expected arrival of the consignment.
The Automatic Registration Number generated through the SIMS portal will remain valid for 75 days, and these revised provisions came into effect on February 20, 2026.
