BIS Amendments to Automotive Related Indian Standards

Commercial ComplianceThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on March 10, 2026, issued a notification establishing amendments to certain Indian Standards under Sub-rule (1) of Rule 15 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018.

Through this notification, BIS introduced amendments to multiple automotive-related standards including IS 9168:2018 relating to all rubber flaps for pneumatic tyres, IS 9500:2017 concerning 360-degree rotary emergency warning lights/special warning lamps, IS 16325:2019 on windscreen wiping systems for three-wheeler vehicles, and IS 18258:2023 relating to evaluation of tyres for rolling sound emissions, wet adhesion, and rolling resistance.

The amendments were established on March 3, 2026, and the respective standards without these amendments will remain in force until September 2, 2026, after which compliance with the amended provisions will become applicable.
