The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on March 09, 2026, issued an Advisory to Shipping Lines/Carriers/Agents regarding transparency in transaction costs and avoidance of predatory, non-transparent, and opportunistic pricing in EXIM trade.
The following has been stated: -
•The Directorate General of Shipping advised shipping lines, carriers, and their agents to ensure transparency in charges related to EXIM cargo transportation.
•This advisory follows stakeholder concerns about non-transparent and excessive ancillary charges increasing logistics costs.
•Under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958, and the Multimodal Transportation of Goods Act, 1993, service providers are encouraged to clearly disclose all applicable charges in transport documents.
•Shipping companies are urged to avoid predatory pricing and adopt fair trade practices to support ease of doing business in India.
