The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on March 06, 2026, issued a circular regarding an update in the Safety Advisory for Indian Seafarers and Shipping Stakeholders Operating in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, and Adjacent Waters.
The following has been stated: -
•The Directorate General of Shipping issued an updated safety advisory due to rising attacks on merchant vessels in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz involving drones, missiles, and small craft.
•Recent incidents showed serious risks to seafarers, including fires in accommodation areas and drone strikes on engine rooms.
•Seafarers and ship operators are advised to maintain round-the-clock vigilance, report suspicious activities, and follow security protocols under the ISPS Code.
•Shipping and RPSL companies must also maintain 24×7 emergency contact systems and provide psychological support for seafarers and their families.
